CoolIT ECO A.L.C. CPU Liquid Cooler Review

With the need for faster components arising, the TDP of these components is increasing faster than ever! The best way to cool down these power hungry components is water. With a specific heat capacity of around 4.187 kJ/kgK compared to air’s 1.012 at normal room conditions, more heat is required to raise the temperature of a given mass of water by one degree Celsius. So, water is the way to go! However, are the majority of users prepared to dabble into full blown custom water cooling? The answer is no, that’s where CoolIT step in. CoolIT have been making watercooling easy and simple since the release of the Domino.

Today we have CoolIT’s latest addition to the enclosed watercooling scene, the ECO Advanced Liquid Cooling, abbreviated A.L.C. The A.L.C is the successor to the ever popular and industries first enclosed watercooling unit, the Domino A.L.C. CoolIT were the first release such models and are viewed as the pioneers in this sector. CoolIT were followed by Corsair who released the H50 and then the H50-1.

Some background information on CoolIT:

For years, CoolIT has been working with leaders in the computer industry to research, design, and provide an affordable new cooling product that provides a comprehensive solution for end users while exceeding high OEM standards. This carefully designed and patented technology unleashes the full potential of a PC, providing superior cooling performance while reducing system level noise and improving reliability of vital components. This small, but potent, pre-assembled product can also be easily installed inside any standard chassis. The CoolIT MTEC Technology can be found in the top names in performance computing like Dell, Alienware, Velocity Micro, MAINGEAR, Hypersonic, Biohazard, Ultra, Ultraforce, Systemax, BFG, Commodore Gaming, War Machine and Shuttle.

Aside from the current product offering, there are several additional products poised for release in the coming months to service the demanding cooling requirements of high performance video cards, multi-processor computers, and servers.

If it isn’t broken, why fix it? Well, the Domino was a more than capable unit but there were a few flaws in the design that meant it lacked compatibility. The Domino had a side panel with a LCD display that allowed the full control of profiles, alarms and regulation of various aspects. This meant that users with cases that featured fans on the side panel, in taking air, couldn’t fit the side panel. The ECO aims to fix this issue, maximising compatibility now so it can fit any current CPU socket and can even fit the latest trend of smaller form factor cases. Efficiency and noise were another factor CoolIT took VERY seriously with the new ECO. The pump consumes a mere 1 watt! The radiator was also engineered and optimized to benefit from low air flow through, meaning the unit should work at its best in silence.

It all sounds very good, let’s see if it meets our expectations!
