It’s not often that we come across RAM that can overclock so far on stock voltage. To say this RAM suprised us was an understatement! Boasting low latencies, voltages and high overclockerbility, the G.SKILL Pi Series RAM is a great addition to the established product lines at G.SKILL. Furthermore, we managed to retain the stock timings of 7-8-7-24 at speeds such as 1800MHZ! With more time and tweaking, I’m sure we could have hit somewhere close to the 2000MHZ figure.
Even whilst pushing 1.72 volts through the RAM to try and acheive these speeds in the time we had, the RAM ran no hotter than it did at 1.5V. This really does show just how good the heatspreaders on the RAM are. I would be highy interested in comparing these modules to similar Corsair Dominators.
There are however, one or two things which should be mentioned. The first of which is in regards to the sheer height of the modules. This not only goes for this kit in particular, but most high end RAM with large heatspreaders can infringe the CPU cooler and often the only solution is to run with less RAM or lose the ability to run the RAM in a triple channel configuration. The other is the lack of airflow fan. Although the RAM ran cool, it’s always a nice addition to any memory kit to have an airflow fan for the RAM, especially for the price of high end RAM modules.
Pros:
- Highly Overclockable
- Great Heatspreaders
- Appealing to the eye
- Low Voltage
Cons:
- Tall heatspreaders may hinder the installation of large CPU coolers
